  1. Struggling to recall the library/librarian in “Amadeus.” A library is ostensibly depicted in “Escape from New York” – I say ostensibly because they definitely did not shoot that scene in a New York library – very little of the movie was shot in New York, but I’d even be surprised if that was a library in St. Louis or Atlanta, where other scenes were shot.

    1. Thanks for the comment, Michael! I am going through and cross-checking the archived lists of the “Librarians on YouTube” blog here at https://ia802504.us.archive.org/30/items/loytnone_202205/loytnone.txt — which was emailed to me by the creator, Alessandro. In Amadeus (1984), Jonathan Moore plays Baron Van Swieten, who was a librarian in real life, serving as Prefect of the Imperial Library in Vienna, starting in 1777. And apparently, he introduced the world’s first card catalog in 1780, replacing bound volumes with more easily transportable cards. The more you know, eh?! 😉 And in Escape from New York (1981), yes, they have a scene in the NYPL (ostensibly, as you say!), and Alessandro noted that Harold ‘Brain’ Hellman (Harry Dean Stanton) takes over the NYPL as a “Wanna Be Librarian” type character (someone who acts like a librarian without actually being a librarian)… an interesting perspective!
